Patriot Review 2021: Features, Integration and Drawbacks.

Patriot is a web-based payroll system for small businesses. It’s easy to use, secure and affordable. The software offers two payroll options to choose from, Basic and Full-Service Payroll. We’ve listed the distinctions between the two in our Features section below. Their prices are in our Pricing field below.

Features.

The Basic Payroll plan includes the following features:

  • Ability to run payroll at the user’s convenience as often as necessary with no additional cost.
  • Ability to print checks and/or direct deposit for free.
  • Printable W-2s.
  • No tax tables to download.
  • Employee portal for access to current and past pay stubs and updating W4 information with seamless integration.
  • Reports, such as payroll register, individual paycheck history, payroll detail, check/deposit payment detail, time-off management, assigned deductions/deductions history, and assigned contributions/contributions history.
  • Ability to pay contractors within same payroll runs as employees.
  • Optional 1099 e-filing.
  • Free implementation and support.

The Full Service Payroll plan includes all of the features of the Basic plan, but it also offers tax filing service. With the Full Service Payroll option, Patriot collects, remits and files federal, state and local taxes on the company’s behalf. This plan also allows for filing of W2 and W3 forms, as well as guaranteed on-time tax filings.

Also, regardless of plan, Patriot automatically updates tax tables, so companies don’t have the headaches of having to manually keep up with tax compliance.

Integration.

Customers start with a 30-day free trial. After the trial, there is a monthly subscription fee, depending on the number of employees and plan selected (either Basic or Full Service).

The subscription fee is the only price the business pays - there are no implementation, support or any other fees.

As part of the implementation process, Patriot Software helps companies:

  • Obtain their state unemployment rates.
  • Obtain tax identification numbers for the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Set up an account, as well as create company payroll and tax settings.
  • Set up deductions and contributions.
  • Enter year-to-date employee payroll information.
  • Reconcile year-to-date information.

Pricing.

Businesses only need to pay a monthly subscription fee that they can cancel with no penalties. The base price for the Basic plan is $10 per month plus $4 per employee or contractor. The base price for Full Service Payroll is $30 a month plus $4 per employee or contractor.

The software is scalable, so businesses have the option to add the Full Service payroll plan if they currently are using the Basic plan.

Patriot Software has two additional plans that include HR and time and attendance features. They are:

Full Service Payroll plus HR software - This plan costs $36 per month plus $6 per employee or contractor. It includes HR functionality, such as document management, employee information tracking and the ability to designate managers or assign direct reports.

Full Service Payroll plus HR and time and attendance - This plan costs $42 per month plus $8 per employee or contractor. It includes time and attendance features, such as custom overtime rules, clock-in/clock-out and time-off management.

Drawbacks.

Patriot is intended for businesses with less than 100 employees -companies with over 100 employees should check out our reviews for other payroll companies, such as APS Payroll.
